What we collect
No account or registration is required. We keep data collection to a minimum:
- Ratings and reviews you submit are stored on a cloud database linked to a randomly generated anonymous identifier assigned to your device. This identifier cannot be used to identify you.
- Problem reports are stored on the same database and, when enough reports accumulate for a single location, a summary notification is sent by email to the project maintainer so the issue can be investigated.
- Community confidence signals — when you tap "Confirm exists" or "Report missing" on a toilet, the same database keeps an anonymous count of confirmations and reports for that location, linked to the same anonymous identifier. These are simple tallies; they record only that a location was confirmed or flagged, never anything about you.
- Review likes and rate-limit flags (to prevent duplicate reports, confirmations, and missing-toilet reports) are stored only in your browser and never leave your device.
- Your location is used only if you activate the "locate me" feature. It is processed locally in your browser to show your position on the map and calculate distances. It is never stored or transmitted.
Third-party services
This app uses a small set of external services to function. Each receives only the data necessary to do their job:
- Map rendering — the interactive map is powered by a third-party tile provider. Tile requests include your IP address and the area of the map you are viewing.
- Data storage — ratings, reviews, reports, and confidence counts are stored in a cloud database service operated by Google. Data is processed under Google's privacy policy.
- Abuse protection — to block automated spam and protect the database, submissions are verified with Google reCAPTCHA (via Firebase App Check). This loads from Google and receives your IP address and basic interaction signals. Data is processed under Google's privacy policy.
- Email notifications — when a location receives multiple problem reports, a notification email is sent to the project maintainer via a third-party email delivery service. The email contains the location name and the reported issue.
- Fonts — the typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address on page load.
Toilet location data originates from OpenStreetMap © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database Licence.
Cookies and browser storage
This application does not set any tracking or advertising cookies. Your browser's local storage is used to remember your ratings, review likes, and short-term flags that prevent accidental duplicate reports, confirmations, and missing-toilet reports. You can clear this at any time through your browser settings.
Your rights
If you would like your submitted ratings, reviews, or reports deleted, or if you have any privacy-related questions, contact us at armingheorghina@gmail.com. We will respond within 30 days.
Terms of use
FindToilet is a free community project provided as-is, without any warranty. Toilet data may occasionally be incomplete or out of date — if you spot an error, please use the in-app Report a problem button, or the Confirm exists / Report missing actions to help keep the community confidence up to date.
These terms are governed by Romanian law.
